Reverend Noel Andersen has served as the Church World Service Grassroots Coordinator over four years, developing deep relationships with faith communities, as well as immigrant and refugee rights groups across the country. Previously, he served as Assistant Pastor at the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ in Sahuarita, Arizona just 40 miles form the U.S.- Mexico border where the congregation was very active in humanitarian aid for migrants on the border and in the struggle against anti-immigrant bill SB 1070. He has a Bachelors of Arts in Cultural Anthropology and a Masters of Divinity from Pacific School of Religion where his emphasis was on theology of liberation which he studied extensively during his field study in El Salvador. He has worked for a number of non-profit organizations in Central America and on the border focusing on community development, education and community organizing. Trained as an organizer by the Midwest Academy and Interfaith Worker Justice, ordained in the United Church of Christ (UCC), fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, and sits on the board of the Center for New Community as well as United We DREAM’s advisory committee for Deportation Defense, he also plays significant role of national coordination for the Sanctuary Movement’s effort to stop deportations.

He will supervise and collaborate with the Grassroots Organizer on local initiatives to assist service providers and refugee leaders, developing resources, training curriculum and campaign strategy.
